September 11 Disaster Relief Bulletin

(also available in downloadable PDF format here; if you don't have it, download Adobe Acrobat Reader here for reading PDF files)

September 19, 2001

TO: AIABaltimore members
FROM: Alan E Reed AIA, president

As the Nation struggles toward some semblance of normalcy, AIA Baltimore invites you to join together with the Baltimore A/E/C community in a show of solidarity and support for the relief efforts.

As many of the volunteer agencies and organizations are overwhelmed with the recent outpouring of support, we would like to concentrate our efforts as a chapter. AIA Baltimore will be assembling a list of firms who are willing to donate services, time, money or other means of relief. We will be coordinating with AIA New York and AIA National to assure that the proper individuals get the information we compile.

If you are interested, please submit the following to AIA Baltimore:

§ Volunteer information, including firm and a contact name, address, and phone number, and the approximate number of volunteers.

§ Description of the type(s) of services you are interested in offering, such as the donation of architectural services, relief funds or clothing, the organization of blood drives, or some other means of relief.

§ Description of any areas of expertise that you can offer to help determine where best your services can be utilized.

Some of you may have suffered a personal loss, while others are mourning the loss of so many. Together, we can honor their memory with our time, energy and support.

Regardless of our joint efforts, we encourage each of you to offer whatever you can on an individual basis to alleviate some small portion of the suffering. Below are some options for individual involvement:

Volunteer Your Time:

The American Red Cross of Central Maryland will continue to review inquiries for assistance. While only trained personnel can be sent to disaster areas, there will still be a need for volunteers as resources are depleted. It may take several days for inquiries to be reviewed. http://redcross-cmd.org/Chapter/Volunteer/index.html

You may also want to contact your local church or community organization to inquire about organizing clothing drops and other services.
