AIABaltimore (AIA, The American Institute of Architects, Baltimore chapter) and the Construction Specifications Institute, Maryland chapter (CSI) present a special program: WEST SIDE REDEVELOPMENT UPDATE, Tuesday, May 8, 4-7:30 at The University of Maryland School of Nursing auditorium, 655 W. Lombard St. Light fare will be served at 4, with the program beginning at 4:30. 3 AIA/CES (HSW) credits with registration. Tickets are $15 members; $10 students/associates; $20 non-members. This program offers to the public the opportunity to hear firsthand about the nine projects underway in the redevelopment of Baltimores West Side. We will begin with presentations about the new strategic plan (Matt DAmico, Design Collective), and the state memorandum of agreement (Bill Pencek, Maryland Historical Trust). Development team members will present the following projects: The Atrium at Market Square (David Hillman, Southern Development); CenterPoint (Donald Kann AIA, Kann & Associates); The Congress Hotel (Ted Rouse, Struever Brothers, Eccles & Rouse); 400 block Howard Street (Ed Hord AIA, Hord Coplan Macht); The Hippodrome (Mike Murphy AIA, Murphy & Dittenhafer); Lexington Market expansion (Bryce Turner AIA, Brown & Craig); The Redwood (Tony Rogers, A&R Development Corp.); University of Maryland projects (Bob Rowen, University of Maryland Baltimore); Weinberg Foundation development.
Following these project presentations, a panel of area stakeholders will join the presenters for questions and discussion with the audience. These include Wendy Blair, Blair McDaniels, LLC; Robert Boras (Maryland Stadium Authority); Jay Brodie FAIA (Baltimore Development Corp.); Tyler Gearhart (Preservation Maryland); Alvin Levi (Market Center Assoc.). Others invited to participate on the panel include: Bernie Berkowitz (Lexington Market expansion); and Ron Kreitner (Baltimore Renaissance).
AIABaltimore, the third oldest chapter in the country, celebrates its 130th anniversary this year. The chapter was founded in 1871 to improve and promote the practice of architecture through continuing education and its code of ethics and professional responsibility. Today, the chapter consists of over 600 architect members and 150 professional affiliates, united to promote the profession in the Baltimore metropolitan area.
