4 5:15 p.m. Seminar 1: The Wonderful World of Stone A Mason’s Perspective. Learn about the use and installation of thin veneer stone (2” non-load bearing), both natural and manufactured. We will also look at building stone (4” load bearing), custom cast stone, weeping systems, trends in the masonry industry, creative design using stone, and conclude with an overview of the most popular stone lines in the industry. Presented by Athena Stone Corporation. 1.5 AIA/CES (HSW) credits.

BAF Noon Forums
The BAF’s lunchtime forums at the John’s Hopkins University’s Downtown Center, Charles and Fayette Streets, are held from noon until 1 p.m. or shortly thereafter. They are free and open to the public. The forum is a weekly informed presentation of current interest about Baltimore’s built environment and its continued development. Those attending are encouraged to bring friends, their lunch and pertinent discussion.

May 9: Joe Cronyn, Principal with Lipman Frizzell & Mitchell LLC, presents his findings from a recent study to determine the economic value of designating significant local buildings historic landmarks.

Baltimore Heritage announces its spring 2007 Saturday walking tours:
Seton Hill: The Narrow Streets of Baltimore, April 28, 10 noon with Mico Milanovic. One of the city’s earliest and best-preserved downtown neighborhoods, it is home to Godefroy’s St. Mary’s Seminary Chapel.
Irish Shrine: Railroads, Irish Immigrants, and 200 Years of History, May 5, 10:30 12:30 with Thomas Ward. The Shrine and Railroad Workers Museum at Lemmon Street celebrate the immense Irish presence in southwest Baltimore in the 1840s.
Tuscany Canterbury: Architecture, Architecture, Architecture, May 12, 10 noon with Ralph Kurtz, AIA. This 20th century neighborhood is a beautiful mixture of Tudor Revival, Italian Renaissance, and Spanish Eclectic rowhouses.
Oakenshawe: English Garden Terrace and the Street Car Suburb, May 19, 10 noon with Matthew Mosca. This turn of the 20th century neighborhood offers beautiful “daylight” Colonial Revival rowhouses and earlier Victorian homes.
The fee is $10/tour for Baltimore Heritage members; $25/tour for non-members. 2 AIA/CES (HSW) per tour with registration.
