An Informative Evening on Specifying Quality Woodwork

Sponsored by the Architectural Woodwork Institute

Tuesday, June 13, 2006, 4-7 p.m. at The Hopkins Downtown Center, 10 N. Charles Street at Fayette.

Registration Fees include a copy of the AWI 2003 Architectural Woodwork Quality Standards Illustrated, 8th Edition (normal cost is $100 for non-members if purchased from AWI).

Join AIABaltimore and the Architectural Woodwork Institute for an informative evening on a variety of woodwork industry topics. Randy Estabrook, Director of the AWI Quality Certification Program, will present the Quality Standards as they relate to Lumber and Trims; Cabinetry; and LEED.

Quality Standards Introduction: An introduction to the 8th edition Quality Standards Illustrated manual, attendees will learn how to use the book. Includes a short pre-test of 10 frequently asked questions about woodwork.

Quality Lumber and Trims: Covers solid lumber, trims, moulding and traditional millwork in detail. Attendees will learn how to avoid common traps and pitfalls during selection.

Quality Cabinetry: Covers cabinet styles, shelf loading, finish materials, and drawer construction. Edge treatments, case joints and countertops are also included.

Quality LEED: Explains the benefits of using wood, as compared with steel, concrete and plastics. Presents a clear explanation of how to meet LEED requirements. Includes a description of the various "wood certification" schemes.
