Smart Codes and Historic Preservation
Tuesday, May 14, 2002
The new Maryland Building Rehabilitation Code went into effect throughout the State on June 1, 2001 as part of the state’s Smart Codes initiative. The Code reduces the complexity and cost of building rehabilitation projects, and facilitates historic preservation by providing alternatives to many building code requirements that conflict with preservation goals. In our monthly program on Tuesday, May 14, Johns Hopkins, Director of Maryland Building Rehabilitation Code Program, will discuss the Rehabilitation Code's treatment of historic buildings, and will focus on key preservation issues such as stairways, windows, and interior finishes. The reception begins at 5:30 pm and the program at 6 in the AIABaltimore Gallery. Space is limited so make your reservations early by calling AIABaltimore at 410.625.2585. 1.5 AIA/CES (HSW) credits with registration. FREE.
