AIABaltimore Design Awards Program and Beaux Arts Ball Announcement for 2002
The 2002 AIABaltimore Excellence in Design Awards program has begun. The competition is open to current AIABaltimore members only. All types of projects will be accepted, including residential and associate entries. The Call for Entries form contains detailed information regarding eligibility and submission format requirements. Submission boards are due Wednesday, September 11, 4:30 pm sharp at the AIABaltimore office.
This year’s jury will meet in New York City on September 12. Peter Schubert AIA, a Principal for Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates in New York City, received his M.Arch from Columbia University. He is currently serving as design principal for a master plan and new academic building for the New York University Law School. He has extensive experience in interiors and is currently in charge of the renovation of Vanderbilt Hall at NYU Law School, and corporate offices for the National Association of Securities Dealers, both also in New York City. Brian Shea AIA, a Partner with Cooper, Robertson & Partners in New York City, received his Masters from Columbia University. His specialty is in urban design and he has served as design partner on many of the firm’s most prominent projects, including Battery Park City and Celebration. Shea has also served as an urban designer for the New York City Department of City Planning and the Mayor’s Office of Midtown Planning and Development. Suzan Wines, co-founder of I-Beam Design in New York City, attended The Cooper Union School of Architecture on a full scholarship and graduated in 1990. She has a broad range of design and construction experience including corporate, commercial, cultural, landscape and residential projects. A proposal by the firm recently won the International Open Competition for the redesign of Lt. Petrosino Park in Lower Manhattan. Wines is currently teaching in the Architecture School of The Cooper Union and writes regularly for the Italian Art and Architecture magazine, Domus.
AIABaltimore invites members, clients, and the public to celebrate the competition and winning projects at The Belvedere on Friday, October 18. The program will begin at 6:30 pm, followed by the new Beaux Arts Ball until 10 pm. The reservation fee is $45 per person (6 or more @ $40 per person).
