1st Thursday Opening Reception
May 1, 2003

Armstrong Bridge

Join AIABaltimore for our opening reception and booksigning on Thursday, May 1, 5 – 7 p.m. as we welcome McInturff Architects to the AIA Gallery.

McInturff Architects, a 6-person firm based in Bethesda, has a diversified client base which includes residential, commercial and small institutional projects. It is their assumption, and hope, that it is possible to make a viable, vital practice with an orientation toward the design of small, highly-crafted projects.

The firm is typically involved in the entire range of services, from project programming through complete architectural and interior design. Utilizing client interaction and involvement, they tailor buildings to the needs of their users. Their work has been frequently published, both locally and nationally, and the firm has received more than 190 design awards, including an AIA Honor Award for Interior Architecture, to be presented in May at the AIA National Convention. The work of the firm is the subject of a monograph, In Detail: McInturff Architects, published in 2001 by The Images Publishing Group of Australia, which will be available at the opening reception.

The principal of McInturff Architects, Mark McInturff FAIA, is a native of Washington DC and received his B. Architecture from the University of Maryland School of Architecture with its first graduating class in 1972. He has taught at the University of Maryland since 1980, has been an annual visiting critic since 1987, with a focus on design competitions, and is currently fulfilling his appointment as the University of Maryland Kea Professor for Spring 2003. Since 1995, he has also been a visiting critic at the Catholic University of America¹s School of Architecture and Planning. McInturff was appointed to the College of Fellows of the AIA in 2000.

The public hours for the bookstore and gallery are Monday through Thursday, 9 – 4:30 pm.
