1st Thursday AIA Baltimore Gallery Show Opening Reception: INSPIRATION Thursday, September 7, 2006, 5 – 7 p.m. in the AIABaltimore Gallery

The Associates Committee of AIA Baltimore presents entries for their featured photography competition. The theme for this year’s photography competition is Inspiration. All photos on display will be representations of things of inspiration to the photographer – in an architectural relevance – and will be accompanied by a written description. The competition will be reviewed and judged by guest jurors from photography professors at MICA prior to the Gallery Opening. 1st Thursday AIA Baltimore Bookstore Show Opening Reception: The Streets of Baltimore, and other wanderings... A photographic journey of images in and around the historic city of Baltimore Thursday, September 7, 2006, 5 – 7 p.m. in the AIABaltimore Bookstore Susan Oliver sailed into the Baltimore Harbor late last summer and found it to be very intriguing. She found a visually fascinating city, full of contrasting architectural images, and was enamored by its unique charm and character, including the local characters! An assortment of various periods of architecture are displayed in her work, reflecting the trends of the times. Susan Oliver has been a photographer since she was young, when she began printing her own photographs in black and white. She studied art and photography at the University of Michigan, and earned a BFA in photography. She has traveled extensively as a chef on private yachts, from Florida to New England, the Bahamas, the Caribbean and across the Mediterranean. Her one steady companion on her trips has always been her camera! She enjoys capturing the unique essence of an area, with spontaneous images. She has an eclectic style, combining street photography, as she calls it, with images of people, architecture, nature and more. She has just recently switched to a digital camera and is printing and matting her own work. At this time, she is displaying her work in different parts of the country, and has had recent shows in Hollywood and Key West, Florida.
