Andrew Mezensky

Grimm + Parker

Andrew Mezensky

Please join AIABaltimore for our first Thursday opening reception in the Gallery on October 3, from 5 – 7 pm as we welcome Grimm + Parker Architects with their installation “Creating Together…” Andrew Mezensky’s sculptures “Images” will continue in the Architects Bookstore.

Grimm + Parker Architects, the fifth largest architectural firm in Maryland, is celebrating their thirty-year anniversary, with a display of their recent work. Their installation entitled, “Creating Together…” provides a quick overview of their portfolio of public and private projects. Grimm + Parker’s mission statement, “Creating Together: Meaningful Architecture + Client Success” tells the story of how they approach their design process and their architectural practice.

Grimm + Parker, together with project stakeholders, is dedicated to creating meaningful architecture that gives back to its community. They have demonstrated a thirty-year commitment to excellence and leadership in environmental design and energy conservation. Their design work is site specific and seeks to discover the poetry of the place.

The firm’s work has received over 60 international, national, state and local design awards. Their awards have included: Maryland AIA’s highest award “Public Project of the Year;” numerous state and local AIA Honor Awards; several “Smart Growth Awards” from Governor Glendening; and numerous national design awards for East Columbia Library, Kent Island High School, Charles Flowers High School, Hollywood Elementary School, Einstein High School, and Tucker Elementary School.

Their team-oriented, collaborative architectural practice includes the design of master plans for college facilities, private schools, public schools, libraries, community centers, cultural institutions, concert halls, housing, and religious facilities. Design teams take their projects from schematic design through design development on into construction. Grimm + Parker has three major design studios located in Bethesda, MD, Calverton, MD, and McLean, VA.

In the bookstore, Andrew Mezensky continues his exhibition of “Images” consisting of wood and bronze sculptures.

Strolling through the maze of hallways and exhibits of the Smithsonian as a young boy with his father, Andrew was amazed at the wonderment of mankind. Air, water and earth – contraptions that spoke of the past and future. A magic existed – the magical handprint of man on metal, cloth and wood. These handprints of woven dreams carried his soul into the clouds and kissed the face of God.

And so, Mezensky got his inspiration to become an artist.

A resident of Baltimore, Mezensky has been exhibiting since 1973. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from the Maryland Institute, College of Art, and Master’s degree from the University of New Mexico. Mezensky’s passion for art led him to teach others. His teaching career extended from 1970 to 1987 at the Baltimore Community College and the Fort Meade Art Center as the assistant director and instructor. His artwork has been displayed throughout the mid-Atlantic region and New Mexico.

The public hours for the bookstore and gallery are Monday through Thursday, 9 – 4:30 pm.
