Druid Hill Park Bicycle Tour

Druid Hill Park, Swann and Lake Drives
The AIABaltimore Historic Resources Committee will conduct a bring-your-own-bike tour of Druid Hill Park on Tuesday, June 2 at 5 p.m. We will meet near Druid Lake at the Columbus statue, just below the convergence of Swann and Lake Drives. The ride should run approximately 1 1/2 hours with informational interludes.

Druid Hill Park will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2010. It is the third oldest major landscaped public park in the country, following Central Park in New York and Fairmont Park in Philadelphia. We will explore the park and rediscover all the history it has to offer through its landscape and structures. The tour will follow the new Jones Falls trail segment around the Zoo to Clipper Mill and then continue on the now-paved carriage roads to the historic formerly-segregated pool and tennis court area. We will stop intermittently as Anne Draddy, author of the recently-published Druid Hill Park, The Historic Heart of Baltimore, regales us with stories of Druid past.
Join us for light food and drink following the ride at the “Sundial Pavilion” on the Lake.
Bring your own bike, helmet and other gear. Limited bikes and helmets are available with advanced notification. Contact Rob Brennan, AIA, 410.788.2282. $10/person a donation will be made to the Friends of Druid Hill Park. Please send payment to AIABaltimore, 11 ½ W. Chase St. Baltimore MD 21201 or call 410.625.2585 to pay with your credit card.
