HISTORIC RESOURCES COMMITTEE Archives

The HRC was formed earlier this year with the goal of being an educational resource for the AIA community about issues pertaining to historic resources. Our focus has been on the creation of a technical database and on facilitating programs and events which focus directly on current rehabilitation and restoration projects at local historic sites. We are also looking into establishing liaisons between the professional AIA community and local college and university preservation programs.

Maryland’s Annual Preservation & Revitalization Conference Comes to Chestertown

Thursday, May 31-Friday, June 1, Washington College, Chestertown

Washington College and the Town of Chestertown welcome the Annual Preservation & Revitalization Conference on Thursday, May 31 and Friday, June 1, bringing together preservation advocates, architects, developers, museum and tourism officials, and representatives from community groups and local organizations from across Maryland. This conference, one of the largest of its kind nationwide, will provide opportunities to enhance knowledge, skills and professional support networks. It is presented by Preservation Maryland with major support from the Maryland Historical Trust, and in partnership with the Town of Chestertown, the Maryland Association of Historic District Commissions, Maryland Association of History Museums, Maryland Coalition of Heritage Areas, Main Street Maryland, AIABaltimore, the Kent County Arts Council and the Historic Sites Consortium of Queen Anne’s County.

Conference sessions will explore ongoing preservation challenges across the state. A rich array of tours and events supplement the educational sessions, many showcasing the City’s leadership in preservation and heritage programs. The Town of Chestertown will host an opening reception at the historic Prince Theater. The Maryland Historical Trust Awards on Friday evening will offer a testament to the value of historic preservation in creating distinctive, successful, livable communities throughout Maryland. Professionals in the preservation fields, community advocates and residents in historic districts will all find resources to help them to preserve and restore their historic sites and thought-provoking discussions on special projects and initiatives throughout the state.

For more information about the conference, please contact Kristen Harbeson, Education and Outreach Director at Preservation Maryland: www.PreservationMaryland.org or 410-685-2886 ext. 302. AIA/CES (HSW) credits with registration.
