HISTORIC RESOURCES COMMITTEE Archives

The HRC was formed earlier this year with the goal of being an educational resource for the AIA community about issues pertaining to historic resources. Our focus has been on the creation of a technical database and on facilitating programs and events which focus directly on current rehabilitation and restoration projects at local historic sites. We are also looking into establishing liaisons between the professional AIA community and local college and university preservation programs.

Stone Hill Historic District: September 26, 2006

On Tuesday, September 26 join the Historic Resources Committee for a program and tour of Stone Hill Historic District, constructed circa 1845-1847. The Stone Hill Historic District is one of the original mill villages along the Jones Falls developed to house textile mill workers. Join us to learn about the history and importance of the Mt. Vernon Mills, now rehabbed as the Mill Centre, and the adjacent mill houses in the historic district. We will visit the big mill-owner’s house, and some of the smaller mill-workers’ houses. Speakers include Peter Pearre, AIA, and Mark Thistel, host and owner of the big mill-owner’s house.

Meeting location, 732 Pacific St., Baltimore. Parking is available at the nearby Stieff Silver building. 5:30 reception; 6 – 7 program and tour. $10 AIA members, $5 students, $25 non-members. RSVP to AIA with payment. Space is limited.

Thank you to our event sponsor, SPIN!
