HISTORIC RESOURCES COMMITTEE Archives

The HRC was formed earlier this year with the goal of being an educational resource for the AIA community about issues pertaining to historic resources. Our focus has been on the creation of a technical database and on facilitating programs and events which focus directly on current rehabilitation and restoration projects at local historic sites. We are also looking into establishing liaisons between the professional AIA community and local college and university preservation programs.

Lovely Lane United Methodist Church

Sanctuary Restoration, Lovely Lane United Methodist Church, Baltimore, MD

This year’s annual meeting will be held at Lovely Lane Church and is jointly sponsored by the Continuing Education Committee and the Historic Resources Committee. Following the reception at 5:30 and business meeting at 6 will be a talk and tour of Lovely Lane Church, one of a handful of local buildings designed by Stanford White of McKim, Mead and White. This architectural gem has recently reached completion on a number of ongoing restorations, including repair of the terra cotta tile roof, exterior masonry, and most recently, the sanctuary, including its spectacular domed ceiling mural. We will tour the building with the architect, Donald Kann AIA of Kann + Associates, and some of the specialty contractors involved in the project.

This event is FREE to all.

1 AIA/CES (HSW) credit available.

Please RSVP with Stephanie Lewand at AIABaltimore, 410.625.2585, slewand@aiabalt.com.
