Annual Program for October 2001: Don’t Shoot the Architect!
Tuesday, October 9

|
This passionate plea comes from James H. Collins, Jr., AIA, President of Boston-based Payette Associates and the speaker for this year’s Affiliates in Action program on Tuesday, October 9. Although he now heads one of the country’s most successful architecture firms, Mr. Collins worked for a general contractor before deciding on a career in architecture. 𠇍on’t Shoot the Architect!” is the title of his lively presentation on the relationship between architects and contractors/construction managers. Everyone who works in the design profession and building industry can benefit from his insights.
In his presentation, Mr. Collins will highlight those areas where he believes architects and contractors/CMs share common purpose, as well as those areas where their definition of success is radically different. Using specific projects of equivalent size and complexity completed over the past 20 years, he will compare project data, managerial processes and production requirements with surprising results. In addition, he will take a look at the current state of the architect and contractor/CM relationship and present a challenge to both sides that might help direct them to work together in more productive ways.
