Dillow Hall
St. Mary's County, Maryland
Mark and Joanne Dillow
GOOD/Architecture
This grand house is beautifully-detailed. Its interior vistas are thoughtfully composed, and the plan respects the tradition of the style. The harmonic composition and articulation of the modules moderate the large volume of the house and create a farm-like compound.

Moore Residence
Annapolis, Maryland
Don and Suzy Moore
GOOD/Architecture
This project demonstrates what a good renovation can do for an otherwise plain interior. While respecting the historic building, the modification of the interior layout, although moderate, is extremely successful. Opening the cross access is a good move. Consistent and extensive use of detail ties the project together.

Sweetser Residence
Annapolis, Maryland
Mr. and Mrs. W.M. Sweetser, Jr.
Hammond Wilson Architects, P.C.
This respectful contemporary interpretation of the shingle style, carried through inside and out, fits nicely into an historic district. It is well-executed in proportion and scale, and hides its large square footage. Its three-dimensionality and detailing are beautiful.

Cozzens Residence
Washington, DC
Todd Cozzens
McInturff Architects
This is an exquisite execution of a consistent theme throughout -- a strong juxtaposition of horizontal elements with the verticality of the building. This modernist expression is done well with some intriguing twists and responds well to the site. Color, material, proportion, and texture are right, creating a pleasant equilibrium.

Chevy Chase, Maryland
Patricia Martin and David Shocket
McInturff Architects
This renovation is minimalist without being sparse. Space flows elegantly from interior to exterior. It is wonderfully-detailed.

Private Residence
Baltimore, Maryland
Swanston & Associates Architects
Its very strong geometry is consistently portrayed throughout the entire project. The stair is a particularly strong element, magnificently done. The house has crisp lines and exhibits a good use of materials.
