BALTIMORE MAGAZINE/AIA BALTIMORE RESIDENTIAL DESIGN AWARDS COMMITTEE Shari Wepman Albert, AIA (Chairperson), Cochran, Stephenson & Donkervoet, Inc. Organizes and conducts programs to recognize and promote design excellence in residential architecture. 2006 Residential Design Awards: 23rd Annual Competition The Jury Cass Gottlieb, AIA, is a principal of Kann & Associates, Inc. Originally from Montreal, Gottlieb has been practicing architecture in the Baltimore area since 1979. Her design expertise focuses on urban redevelopment, housing and senior living facilities. She has an enduring commitment to affordable housing, and has served on the Board of Directors of the Baltimore Housing Partnerships and as President of Comprehensive Housing Assistance, Inc. Gottlieb is active in a host of community organizations and holds leadership positions on a variety of nonprofit boards, both nationally and locally, including the Associated Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore and the Maryland Center for Veterans Education & Training (MCVET). She is a graduate of the 2001 Class of Leadership Maryland, and has been named one of Maryland’s Top 100 Women by the Daily Record in 2000, 2002 and 2004. Roger K. Lewis, FAIA, is a Washington, DC practicing architect and urban designer. He is an author, journalist, and professor at the University of Maryland School of Architecture, Planning & Preservation. His firm has designed award-winning buildings and prepared master plans and design guidelines for communities in both the U.S and abroad. He is the design advisor of numerous federal, county and municipal government agencies. Lewis also writes and illustrates "Shaping the City," an award-winning, bi-weekly column in The Washington Post about architecture, urban design, housing, historic preservation and public policy affecting the built environment. Shaping the City cartoons have been featured in several exhibitions including a one-man show at the National Building Museum. He wrote, Architect? A Candid Guide to the Profession, a best-selling introductory text published by The MIT Press and used in architecture schools throughout North America, Japan, Korea and Mexico. He was also the co-author of the widely disseminated Growth Management Handbook. Patrick Sutton, AIA, specializes in high-end residential architecture and interior design. He has successfully completed hundreds of projects nationwide, working under the premise that architecture, interior design and the decorative arts are cohesively interlinked. He and his firm work on projects through all disciplines, so that a comprehensive experience can be seen in the completed work. In addition to residential, his range of work includes hospitality and institutional projects, as well as retail and yacht interiors. Sutton began his architectural studies at the pre-collegiate level at the Harvard Graduate School of Design and then went on to receive his B. Arch. with Honors from Carnegie-Mellon University. He has chaired the AIA Committee on Urban Design and has served on the board of the Society for the Preservation of Federal Hill and Fells Point, Style Magazine Advisory and Main Street Design Advisory Boards. He is the recipient of Carnegie-Mellon University’s highest academic design award, and has won numerous design awards from the AIA, the American Society of Interior Designers and other trade organizations. His work has been recognized by both local and national news media, including being named one of Baltimore’s 40 most influential businessmen under 40 years old and Baltimore’s best residential designer by Baltimore magazine. |
