New Technologies - Planning Telecommunications for Architects

Allen & Shariff, established engineering firm, will share the latest trends in telecommunications engineering

Columbia, Maryland— On Tuesday, January 23, 2001, beginning at 6:00 PM, The AIABaltimore Technology in Practice (TiPC) Committee will hold its monthly meeting at the offices of Allen & Shariff located at 7061 Deepage Drive in Columbia, Maryland. They will present Telecommunications Engineering. This presentation encompasses the latest trends and issues that impact the design and installation of telecommunications infrastructure in a commercial building. Some areas of discussion will include building requirements for telecommunications wiring and equipment, cost factors, client needs, constraints, plans, equipment, location, distribution paths, cable routing and checklists.

The AIA Baltimore Technology in Practice (TiPC) Committee examines and presents the use of technology to the design of buildings and the practice of architecture. Committee meetings are every fourth Tuesday at 6:00 PM. For more information about TiPC activities, or to be added to the programs mailing list, send an Email to committee chair Geraldine Pontius at gpontius@gcp-architect.com. The above program is scheduled to last from 6PM to 8PM. Reservations are required and space is limited, so send your check early. The cost, payable in advance, is $5.00 for AIA members, Affiliates, and Students and $10.00 for non-AIA members. Contact the Baltimore AIA Chapter office at 410/625-2585. 2 AIA/CES credits H/S/W.

Directions to Allen & Shariff from Interstate 95

FromI-95, take Exit 38b (Route 32 West) – take 1st exit for Brokenland Parkway (norhtbound). Go right at the top of the exit ramp and stay in far right lane. Make a right at the 1st light onto Snowden River Parkway. Make a left at the 2nd light onto Carved Stone Road. Make the 1st right onto Deepage Drive.

Allen & Shariff is the 2nd building on the left side –two-story red brick, next door to Hunan Manor Restaurant. We are located on the 2nd floor.

AIA Presentation a Success! Allen & Shariff hosted AIA Baltimore Information Technology Evening

Allen & Shariff Corporation successfully hosted the AIA Baltimore Telecommunications Engineering Presentation last evening at our office in Columbia, MD. The evening consisted of refreshments, our certified presentation "Building Infrastructure Solutions for Information Technology," and a tour of our structured cabling system. Over 50 people were in attendance, including architects, engineers, developers, contractors, and distributors. Approximately half in attendance were AIA Certified members.

The presentation encompassed the latest trends and issues that impact the design and installation of telecommunications infrastructure in a commercial building. Areas of discussion included building requirements for telecomm infrastructure, cost factors, client needs,constraints, plans, equipment, location, distribution paths, and cable routing.
