URBAN DESIGN COMMITTEE
Urban Design Lecture Series The AIABaltimore Urban Design Committee and the Baltimore City Planning Department proudly announce the first jointly-organized Urban Design Lecture Series. Its purpose is to complement our lectures on architecture and building design with lectures highlighting best practices in planning and urban design. The series specifically addresses practitioners in the planning department and within AIA and APA whose work includes urban design, masterplanning, transportation and planning. The lectures will be held at the Planning Department, 417 East Fayette Street, 8th floor in the main conference room and will begin at 5:30 p.m. Presentations will be followed by questions and answers and general discussion as desired. Refreshments will be served. First Urban Design Lecture: Wednesday, September 22, 2004, 5:30 p.m. Martin Millspaugh, Vice Chairman, Enterprise Real Estate Services, Inc. Mr. Millspaugh who headed up Charles Center-Inner Harbor Management Inc. (a predecessor of the current Baltimore Development Corporation) will speak about the history of planning for the Baltimore Inner Harbor and the lessons learned. David Benn, AIA of Cho Benn Holback + Associates will follow up with a brief introduction to the new Inner Harbor Masterplan and the actions proposed by Cooper Robertson and Cho Benn Holback + Associates. In our discussion, we will widen the topic to address the future of the Baltimore Waterfront in general including the new Waterfront Overlay District recently proposed by the Planning Department. $10 AIABaltimore members and members of the Planning Department; $15 non-members.
