Project
Requirements:

Renovate existing historic 21,000 gsf mill building into state- of-the-art exhibition and instructional spaces. Addition houses new entrance and meeting hall along with additional art labs.

Program:

Total 31,000 gsf for:

Art studios for painting, ceramics, photography, sculpture;
library; computer graphics lab; administrative offices;
exhibit gallery; multi-purpose assembly hall; lobby with gift shop.

Technical
Information:

Full restoration of three floor wood and masonry mill building under review of the Maryland Historic Trust. Full MEP and life safety upgrades were included. Addition is masonry and steel joined to mill building with a glass and steel bridge.

Energy Considerations:

Thermal envelope improvements made to existing mill building. New central plant housed in addition backfeeds into mill building through connecting bridge, preserving architectural image of historic mill.

Barrier Free Design:

Addition and historic mill building are completely accessible.
